"Zero nominations = you're not invited!" The Weeknd reacts to Grammys snub

The singer-producer labelled the awards ceremony "corrupt"

The Weeknd has spoken about his dismay at the “corrupt” Grammys while expressing disbelief that he was asked to prepare a performance despite his lack of nominations.

The singer-producer wrote on Twitter: “Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!”

Collaborator Oneohtrix Point Never posted under the tweet: “sometimes it feels like we’re living in soulless paper thin times.”

In an Instagram statement, Drake called for the Grammys to be replaced with a new awards show, also stating that acts like Lil Baby and Pop Smoke had been overlooked.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards,” Drake said.

“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just can’t change their ways,” he continued.

Nicki Minaj also spoke out about the awards ceremony, writing on Twitter: “Never forget the Grammys didn’t give me my best new artist award when I had seven songs simultaneously charting on Billboard & bigger first week [sales] than any female rapper in the last decade. “They gave it to the white man Bon Iver.”

People have also expressed confusion at Kaytranada being nominated for Best New Artist, despite being established for quite some time.

The Grammys responded by saying they “empathised” with his disappointment but that some “deserving” acts miss out every year.

The Grammys previously came under fire for having an “urban” music category, and, following a statement by Tyler, The Creator, removed the category.
