Thundercat - Bowzer's Ballad

The Brainfeeder bassist shares lovely dedication to late, great Nintendo boss Hiroshi Yamauchi.

Earlier this week legendary Nintendo boss Hiroshi Yamauchi, one of the key figures in revolutionising the gaming industry into the one recognisable today, passed away at the age of 85. Thundercat has decided show his appreciation for Yamauchi's life and work by sharing Bowzer's Ballad. Like other recent video game soundtrack appropriatons – take Joker's genuinely rich tribute to the Sega Mega Drive – there's hints of loved-to-be-loathed 8-bit here, but there's more layers to Bowzer's Ballad than that. Those tinny synth trills that drop in around a minute in – which for many will ignite childhood memories of Mario racing across the screen nabbing gold rings – couldn't twinkle more elegantly if they tried.
