Young Fathers - Soon Come Soon

Mercury Prize winners announce a hefty world tour with a standalone new song.

Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers have shared a new song, Soon Come Soon.

In a press release for the song, Young Fathers leave the story of the song's inception:

Every death is an apocalypse for someone. But did you ever hear an ending so sweet?

Here's a little death for you, sneezed on to a virtual seven inches, an exhaled ecstasy all the way from California. Sex and death and California.

Here's the story:

In a corporate, brown brick Los Angeles building, low and flat, under the dirty blue of the western precipice, amongst the death trade military complex and the Hollywood propaganda machine, a song is born. It's a boy! An apocalyptic boy, looking just like his mother.

Young Fathers had got together for a wild night in a studio ran by a man called Daddy Kev. Under the influence of surf, skunk and earthquakes they got choral, and so the end of the world became a pop song.

Soon Come Soon lives on its own, it's not part of an album: this is a singular single. DEAD is not dead and this is a reminder….

A reminder that the magic bullet is gonna get ya sometime, somehow..

It won't be long. It will soon come soon.

So, it seems to have been recorded in LA, but we're not sure when – we know that Young Fathers are working hard on a follow-up to 'Dead' right now, so whether this is a part of those sessions, something recorded after the release of 'Dead' while touring America, or something even older remains to be seen.

'Dead' made it into our favourite albums of 2014 – read why here.
