Colin Stetson - In Mirrors/And In Truth

Experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson will release part three of his ‘New History Warfare’ series next month, and he’s shared a frosty split video for album tracks In Mirrors and And In Truth. Over In Mirror’s sorrowful moans – which feel cut from same tension as Oliver Messiaen’s electronic forebear Oraison – are a series of interweaving kaleidoscopic patterns. Just as the unnerving In Mirrors is cut short, And In Truth – which was one of the tracks first played out on Belgian radio last month – bursts open as its blurted horn sirens are coupled with a unmistakable vocal from Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Against this are vast images of dreamy snow-covered landscapes, which wouldn’t look out of place on an Attenborough documentary. The splicing of the two tracks together does leave things feeling more like an album teaser than a self-contained video, and it could comfortably be twice its length – but certainly builds anticipation for ‘New History Warfare Vol. 3’.

Constellation will release ‘New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light’ on 30th April.
