David Bowie - The Next Day

There’s been a bit of a furore over Mr. Bowie most recent video. The Catholic League – apparently “America’s largest Catholic rights organisation” – have been quite displeased by the Floria Sigimondi directed clip, which sees Bowie playing a prophet in a dive bar band, Gary Oldman playing a sleazy priest and Marrion Cotillard with pretty gory stigmata. In a blog post titled BOWIE’S “JESUS” VIDEO IS A MESS”, Catholic League bigwig Bill Donohue describes Bowie as a “switch-hitting, bisexual, senior citizen” and writes that “in short, the video reflects the artist—it is a mess.” Ouch.

The video was originally banned from Youtube, but it can now be viewed if you’re over 18. If you don’t feel your sensibilities will be upset, watch the daft (that punch sound effect at the beginning!), excessive and fun video above. Needless to say, exercise caution if viewing at work.
