Doldrums - Lost In Everyone

Doldrums has spoken before about the concept-not-concept that he came up with before the release of his debut album – a sci-fi scenario in which people dream in sync, entering the same space in their subconsciousnesses. While he has insisted since that this idea doesn’t directly relate to anything – not to his album, and not, as I suggested when I interviewed him, to the prevalence of social media in people’s lives and interactions – his track Lost In Everyone seems to fit perfectly into the sombre plot. With lines like “Somehow I get lost in everyone,” distorted vocals and a sound that captures a “young Radiohead inside a tin can” vibe, it’s an exploration of the feeling of being a little lost, as though you’ve been swept up in other people and can’t pinpoint yourself any more. In his self-directed video, this theme is only emphasised more, with a very small and far away Doldrums (AKA Airick Woodhead) seen wandering around post-apocalyptic and distorted landscapes.

Souterrain Transmissions released ‘Lesser Evil’ on the 26th February 2013.
