Maxxi Soundsystem - Regrets We Have No Use For

Maxxi Soundsystem, the Brighton-based house and disco revivalist, has been putting out a run of solid house tunes for a few years now, the highlight of which being the piano house mini-anthem Criticise for Kojak Giant Sounds last year, and Regrets We Have No Use For is probably the best thing that Maxxi Soundsystem have put their name to. Released recently on the faultless Hypercolour, the single comes backed with a remix by electronic innovator Matthew Herbert, who recently introduced the world to Hejira.

But what else can you say about it? It’s a house tune. It’s a little deep. The vocals from Name One are great. The twinkling synths that flit along in the background almost inaudibly are lovely. The bassline follows a predictable progression, but in a good way. The way it kind of cuts out into almost purely subs by the fourth bar is special. It’s delicate and well crafted, and uplifting in all the right sort of ways. The video consists of re-cut footage and is absurd, and fun. I don’t think you could call it earth-shattering, but to call it anything other than fantastic would be untrue, too.

Hypercolour released ‘Regrets We Have No Use For’ on October 8th.
