Oscar Jerome's stunning new visual for 'Sweet Isolation' explores the beauty in the bleak
Oscar Jerome is back with a cinematic music video for his brand new single ‘Sweet Isolation’.
The Norfolk-born jazz sensation is turning the screw for the first time in 2022, following his July collaboration with Ben Hauke on their genre-bending ‘No Need’ EP.
Produced by Beni Giles and featuring saxophone from Kaida Akinnibi, Jerome’s latest offering builds on the visceral energy of his previous releases while bringing new dimensions of his artistry into frame. Blending warped guitar lines with a driving beat that morphs throughout, Oscar delivers one of his most brooding and atmospheric singles to date.
As a product of South London’s contemporary jazz scene, creativity has never been an issue for the young musician, however, the music video for ‘Sweet Isolation’ pushes the envelope to experimental new levels. Directed by Jerome himself, alongside Alfie Laurence and Mathias Karl Gontard, the stunning visual was shot in Iceland and splits the musician into two separate characters with different stories to tell.
“This track and visual is an exploration into the beauty in melancholy,” Jerome explains. “The first character you encounter is Jerry, back in an easier time. He is happy but somewhat deluded, a warped idolisation of what was. The second character, Ice Guycicle, reflects the art that grows out of deep emotion and the pain experienced on the path to transformation. He could be a real person searching for answers on an alien planet or he could be a thought walking through the barren landscape of your mind.”
