Popcaan - Only Man She Want

Popcaan is the man of the moment in bashment and dancehall right now. His instantly recognisable voice was first widely noticed after his feature on Vybz Kartel’s 2010 favourite Clarks and the 23-year-old is filling the slot left vacant while the ‘World Boss’ remains in custody.

A string of solid releases over the last 18 months have established Popcaan as one of Jamaica’s top deejays and this status was crowned by a stand-out performance at the latest annual edition of Sting, one of the island’s biggest and best known live dancehall events.

Only Man She Want, a version of the popular Lost Angel Riddim, has been around for a while but a video was recently released to accompany the track. The visuals are pretty standard-fare with plenty of baseball caps and emotionally-wrought love scenes but its Popcaan’s vocal that really stands out. The hook is simple but infectious as all good hooks should be and the verses are top too – particularly the swaggering boast ‘The gal a fight fi me like American troops’ that hits that perfect spot between softness and hardness.
