Roger Robinson - Running

Question: what happens when one third of King Midas Sound decides to record solo in their downtime? Answer: we get songs like Running, a track by Roger Robinson recently unleashed upon the world. Actually, “unleashed” is the wrong word to use, because the song is an exercise in restraint. Far from wanting to break free of its chains, it’s a slow and minimalist piece based on repetitive piano chords and rumbling subs, with a lone vocal in the middle of it all.

Maybe semantic arguments are too much – let’s just leave it to Robinson to explain the project in his own words.

“My solo album ‘New Broken Things’ will be out in 2013 on my own imprint Majesty Records…I’ve really learned alot in being in King Midas Sound with Kiki Hitomi and Kevin Martin. They are incredibly clever people and musicians. I wanted to take the things that I’ve picked up from King Midas Sound and apply them to other sounds and lyrical approaches, not because I’m disgruntled with KMS but because I really just like making music.”

Running is available as a free download from the King Midas Sound website.

Majesty Records will release ‘New Broken Things’ in 2013.
