Bold graphics by Ross Gunter

Ross is senior designer at Popcorn design agency in east london, who has also designed for We Are Elements, Toot Sweet, Five Easy Pieces, Nike and Hospital records, as well as running his own creative platform Bridging the Gap. Ross Gunter’s work is vibrant and aesthetically satisfying to say the least – certainly something to shout about.

Where did you study?

Way, way, way back: Abingdon College, Oxford. Way, way back:
Swindon College, BA (Hons) Typography – dropped out after first year.

How did you get involved doing artwork for music releases?

From a young age I’ve always been into music. A big part of that draw was, and still is, the artwork. I was never really any good at the music, so I stuck to the ‘art’. How did I get involved? Having mates that are in and around the music thing has lead to doing the odd bits and pieces. All the artwork I’ve done thus far, which isn’t a huge amount, has been for friends.

What inspires you visually?

I know its cliché to say this, and it doesn’t really narrow things down, but anything and everything. I’d say London does a very good job of giving me enough of a sensory overload to satisfy any pangs I might have.

How did you get involved with Five Easy Pieces?

That’s all down to Claudio (Count Choc). We run BTG (Bridging the Gap) together. He asked me to do look at putting together an identity for FEP. I’m a sucker for helping mates out.

What’s next for you?

I’m looking forward to getting stuck into a new version of the various website. There’s going to be iPhone/iPad friendly version with gesture based navigation and the like. There’s some new BTG Tee’s on their way too — on an 8-bit Persian rug vibe (I got heavy into Islamic art just before Christmas).

What music are you listening to at the moment?

At this very moment, John Talabots ƒin. I like the clever use of the florin sign.
