Tara Kumar stars in episode five of Pioneer DJ x DMY 'At Home With' series
DJ and radio broadcaster Tara Kumar is quickly establishing herself as one of London's fastest rising new music tastemakers. Having recently upped sticks from Dublin to follow her dream as a radio host and selector in the UK capital, the Stoke Newington-based crate digger becomes the fifth special guest to open up their homes and day-to-day lives for Pioneer DJ and DMY’s documentary series.
Originally launched in January last year, ‘At Home With’ invites the best emerging DJs, artists and producers to show how they work from home and gain inspiration for their music, peaking behind the curtain to find out what they get up to away from the daily grind.
Following episodes with BBC Radio 1 DJ and presenter Jaguar, London-based songstress Abisha, chart-scaling producer TSB, and fast-rising electronic artist Jasper Tygner, Tara Kumar takes us on a trip around her local area before preparing some food at her North London home.
Episode five kicks off in Tara's loft bedroom where the selector talks about her journey so far and how she managed to turn a passion for music into a DJ career. After revealing the story behind her first time playing in front of an audience, Kumar takes viewers for a spin on her Pioneer DJ home set up.
Next, Tara sets off to a local shop called Londis N16 to pick up some ingredients. The Irish-Indian-Malaysian talent opens up about her love of food and cooking, explaining its importance to her family while whipping up a tasty salad.
The video also sees Kumar take a visit to Rough Trade East record store to pick out some vinyl and discuss her passion for discovering new records and hidden gems.
Pulled together with cinematic shots of Stoke Newington and the surrounding area, the mini-documentary is scored with a lively soundtrack of music provided by Tara's friend, Moving Still. The songs include Cheba Yamina - 'Sidi Mansour' (Moving Still edit), Bashar - 'Omrena' (Moving Still & Disco Arabesquo Edit), and Nora - 'El Hub El Sahl' (Moving Still Edit).
