Cameron McLain Is Back After A Decade With 'All the Light'
Cameron McLain is back. The songwriter and producer returned today with 'All the Light', his first new music in more than a decade.
Written between London and California, the single sits where live instrumentation meets dancefloor warmth. Intimate vocals float over euphoric electronic production, in a sound that nods to the likes of Maribou State, BAYNK, Barry Can't Swim, Joy Anonymous and Bonobo. It's built for shared moments, the kind where a room moves as one.
That communal feeling is the heart of it. "'All the Light' is about the invisible things that connect us — love, energy, memory, the feeling of being completely present with other people," McLain says. "I wanted it to capture that moment when music makes all of that feel euphoric and tangible."
It's a long-awaited return from an artist with a winding history. McLain's first musical steps came in a school project with Andrew Davie, who went on to co-found Bear's Den. He later released solo work as Mandala, including the album 'The Visitation', and co-founded electronic project Vector Xing.
'All the Light' is a first look at a bigger body of work still to come, and it suggests an artist who has found a looser, more joyful way of mixing the electronic and the organic.
'All the Light' is out now.
