'Mama Wise Words': Izza Gara transforms her mother's advice into a scorching summer hit

"She began translating a bunch of Turkish proverbs to make me understand. In that same moment, I felt inspired..."

Swedish/Turkish vocalist, dancer and artist Izza Gara returns with a brand new single, titled 'Mama Wise Words'.

Awash with playful synths and a light, catchy drumbeat, the track harks back to the early 2000s and is inspired by a voice memo from the artist's mother, where she gives Izza advice and translates a Turkish proverb that says, "If you don't value me, you have no value in my eyes either."

Going into more detail about how the new track came to be, Gara says: "I had fallen in love with someone who didn't see my worth, and it was time to stand my ground and close the case. I didn't know how, and I didn't feel strong enough, so I went to my mom, who immediately lifted me up. I instantly felt better, so I took the opportunity to record her, so that I could listen to the recording whenever I felt myself becoming weak and indecisive again.

"Then that summer day came when I felt weak and indecisive once more, and I pulled out the voice memo and listened to our conversation," she adds. "I started laughing at how tired she sounded of me and how she began translating a bunch of Turkish proverbs to make me understand. In that same moment, I felt inspired, had my computer open, and thought, 'What if I was a Jellyfish, mama?'"

Izza Gara has recently performed at various local live venues in both Stockholm and Gothenburg, laying the foundation for a tour ahead of her upcoming EP release.

"I'm really excited to share more visual art and expand my artistic spectrum. Lately, I've been rehearsing with my dear friend Amir Ashoor, who is one of Sweden's best choreographers, for my live set where I finally get to perform with dancers. I'm incredibly excited about what we will bring to the scene," says Gara.
