Julia Holter – Sharper White (Draft)
Julia Holter’s is the kind of striking talent one doesn’t come across very often. Her last album ‘Tragedy’ – one of our albums of the year – was one of the most beautifully poised, clever and beautiful records of recent times, and she’s soon to follow this up with her equally accomplished album ‘Ekstasis’ on RVNG Intl. in March. She recently though uploaded a demo version of the track Sharper White, which appears on neither album. It’s nearly twenty minutes of gorgeously crafted sound, beginning in stark minimalism and building up into a touching adrenalin flurry of song. It’s further proof of Holter’s unique compositional talent, and there’s few around past or present that are capable of matching such levels of skill and grace.
