Nâ Hawa Doumbia – Kungo Sogoni [MP3]

Brian Shimkovitz is a very interesting American chap who started a blog called Awesome Tapes From Africa in 2005. After returning from Ghana with a box of, literally, awesome tapes from Africa, he decided to go about digitising his collection so the world could hear the music he’d accumulated. Six years down the road, he’s built a half-private museum, and half swap-shop dedicated to the music of the continent, typifying the blogger-as-constant-indexer archetype, and, in his own way, spreading our small world a little larger.

Malinese singer Nâ Hawa Doumbia’s 1983 tape ‘La Grande Cantatrice Malienne Vol 3’ was one of the best albums, by his reckoning, he donated to the internet, and next month he’ll bust down the fourth wall and press the songs on to vinyl on his new Awesome Tapes From Africa record label.

Below is a track from the record, which we enthusiastically implore you to track down.
