OLAN Explores Surrender on Tender New Single 'Backseat'
Electronic artist OLAN has unveiled her latest single 'Backseat', a delicate yet propulsive cut that marks her debut on Seb Wildblood’s acclaimed label all my thoughts. The track opens her forthcoming EP 'Nimbus Clouds,' a three-track project that sees the producer at her most vulnerable and expansive.
Known offstage as Luzana Flores, OLAN has built a reputation for weaving introspective songwriting into dancefloor-ready productions, with past releases on Ninja Tune and Anjunadeep. With 'Backseat,' she leans further into that duality. Muted bass pulses beneath mechanical thuds and flickering textures, before her voice emerges, intimate and clear, evoking what she calls “the bliss of giving up control.”
“It leans into the bliss of giving up control,” OLAN explains. “I was just pulling from the chorus, but I think the title plays into that theme.”
Written in Las Vegas over a week with longtime collaborators, 'Nimbus Clouds' is, in her words, “a sonic exhale after a period of deep personal unrest.” The EP reflects a turning point, a reconnection with friends and the collaborative spirit that first sparked her creative journey in Nevada. “Vegas is where OLAN first gained momentum,” she says. “It’s where I didn’t have to choose between making dance beats and being a songwriter. This EP is me at my most natural.”
OLAN continues to carve out a singular path in electronic music, joining the lineage of boundary-pushers such as Jlin, Mira Calix, and Björk.
Backseat arrived today, with follow-up single 'Passing' due 22nd October, ahead of the full 'Nimbus Clouds' EP release on 12 November 12 via all my thoughts.
