RYL0 steps into queendom with 'I'm the Best' EP
RYL0 has dropped another EP oozing with vibes and juiciness – its seven tracks parody a glamorous, credit card funded lifestyle.
Self-proclaimed “jackass of all trades” and hyper-popstar RYL0 steps into queendom beginning with the EP’s first track, ‘Rat Race’, which was released as a single earlier this year. It begins with a harpsichord hook and then leads in to lyrics like, “I’ll heat you in the microwave”. ‘Business’ proceeds with a scraping, inverted melody that turns your brain inside-out and features DRAKExTAYLOR – a player in the hyperpop scene who has been described as “a threat to music as we know it today”.
The EP’s second feature comes from Aron Enoch for ‘Fancam’, and the pair make themselves no stranger to extreme auto-tuning. RYL0’s signature sweet and sour flavour is given ambience in ‘After Midnight’, and club status in ‘Heaven – Like an Angel’. The New Jersey native giggles in the direction of Y2K pop, brostep, EDM, and hardcore – sprinkling fairy dust as she goes, taking influence from artists like Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, Kesha, and Nicki Minaj. RYL0 has said that the Charlie XCX mixtapes provided inspiration for her latest EP, ‘I’m the Best’.
‘Goddess’ is equally as confident, and ‘Rich and Famous’ is a forceful track that has lyrics laced with irony – RYL0 definitely isn’t waiting around for anyone.
‘I’m the Best’ is out now via DMY.
