tahjii Launches Trance Records With Debut EP ‘vacation‘

The New York multi-instrumentalist turns inward on an intimate, genre-blurring debut.

New York artist tahjii has released ‘vacation’, the debut EP on Trance Records, the NYC label and creative agency founded by Talia Goddess.

Marking the first release from the label’s newly launched roster, ‘vacation’ introduces tahjii as a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and producer with a sound that moves between indie alternative, lo-fi hip-hop and experimental rock. Entirely self-written and produced, the eight-track EP explores self-discovery, vulnerability and the process of reconnecting with music on his own terms.

Born in Queens and raised on Long Island, tahjii began learning piano at 10 before studying at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts and Berklee College of Music. It was during his time at Berklee that he began questioning the traditional path he was following, ultimately stepping away to rediscover his personal relationship with music.

Describing ‘vacation’ as a diary, tahjii says the project allowed him to “slow down” and feel, translating emotions that he struggles to express verbally into sound.

For Talia Goddess, the release represents the beginning of Trance Records’ wider mission to champion emerging artists and provide resources and creative freedom to young Black creatives working at the fringes of futurist music.

On ‘vacation’, tahjii makes an introspective first statement while setting the tone for a label built around experimentation, community and artistic independence.
