Oslo-based alt-pop and electronic innovator Torgny Amdam makes a powerful return with ‘Just Cry,’ a striking new single featuring vocals from his 15-year-old daughter April.
The song introduces Amdam’s forthcoming concept album, ‘Air Mail,’ his most personal and narrative-driven project to date.
Blending breakbeat rhythms with chilly electronica and cinematic tension, ‘Just Cry’ channels the emotional heft of Trent Reznor and the club-leaning introspection of Daniel Avery. The presence of April’s voice - fragile, direct, and wholly unguarded - adds an intimate layer to the song’s emotional core. As Amdam reveals, the collaboration came about unexpectedly:
“I overheard my daughter say to a friend, ‘I went with Dad to the studio on Career Day and then he made me sing a bunch of cringe stuff into the microphone.’ What can I say? ‘Just Cry’ is the result.”
The track also features guitarist Iver Armand (Mall Girl / Tigerstate), whose textured playing deepens the song’s melancholic glow.
Due February 2026, ‘Air Mail’ is a multilingual exploration of family, memory, and identity. Written and produced entirely by Amdam, the album draws inspiration from letters he mailed home while living as an exchange student in the U.S. in the 1990s.
“The songs are mainly written from the perspective of 17-year-old me. But it’s also me today - a kind of double voice looking back on a life lived while still living and struggling,” he says.
Amdam’s ‘Just Cry’ opens the door to a project that feels both expansive and deeply intimate - a moving prelude to the world of ‘Air Mail’.
'Just Cry' is out now.
