93 Feet East is to close

Following a drug raid last month, it's been confirmed that the Brick Lane venue has lost its right to remain open.

93 Feet East, one of East London’s most well-established haunts, has lost its battle to keep its license following a police raid in December.

The venue was targeted as part of Operation Condor, a two-day initiative aiming to crack down on venues viewed as flouting their licensing laws. The police raid on 93 Feet East was Operation Condor’s largest, involving a whopping 175 officers – but only resulted in ten arrests, mostly for drug-related offences. The fact that other venues targeted comprised pubs, saunas and massage parlours does lead to questions as to why the Brick Lane venue was so heavily singled out.

After being forced to shut their doors temporarily in the immediate aftermath, club owners Ofer and Jason Zeloof were unable to stop the club’s license being permanently revoked. The venue hosted some memorable nights over the years, including a surprise appearance from Radiohead back in 2008. Watch footage of the mass raid below.
