Arca mints her first NFT, 'Rorscharch;KiCk'

The move has prompted debate among her fans about the ethics of NFTs

Arca has minted her first NFT featuring the “original calligraphy all KiCk typography is sourced from”.

The artist listed the piece of one-off crypto art, titled ‘Rorscharch;KiCk‘, via digital marketplace SuperRare.

She posted the listing on Twitter, writing: “I painted each symbol in sets of three during a trancelike state”.

The reserve price for the NFT is currently set at 20 ETH, (around £30,900 at time of writing), and will not be up for auction until the reserve price is met. When it is, a 24-hour auction will begin.

The news has prompted many of Arca’s fans to criticise the move on social media, citing the environmental impact that comes with NFTs.

As reported by CrackArca took to her Discord server, Mutants1000000, to discuss the ecological issues surrounding NFTs, stating: ““I think NFTs can be useful in opening spaces for people to live off of making art in new ways and in [a] more feasible way that has less to do with gatekeeping and the industry and more to do with a collector buying art directly off the artist.”

In an interview with The Independent recently, Nils Frahm described NFTs as “the most disgusting thing on the planet right now”, adding that “even some of my heroes like Aphex Twin are selling, sorry, crap for 130,000 bucks… It’s unforgivable to participate in something which is so bleak and wrong.”

Recently, Ja Rule sold sold his Fyre Festival oil painting as an NFT for $122,000 (around £88k).
