canooooopy - 燭台と蜘蛛の糸 [candlestick + spidersilk]

Spooky, tightly crafted sounds from the experimental Japanese beatmaker.

There is a sense of eerie looming in Japanese beatmaker canooooopy's new track 燭台と蜘蛛の糸 (that's candlestick + spidersilk in English) – and what a perfect, almost Halloween-themed title for this slightly spooky track. It begins with a dusty sample of a female voice singing a passage from the Song of Solomon, while a sample from the beginning of Warpaint's Baby loops throughout. Percussion drips throughout the track in a super off-beat hip hop rhythm, leaving a luscious trail of bells, clinking specks of noise, and popping kicks, as waves of ambient synth drop in and out with tense strings.
