New York governor launches inquiry into lack of social distancing at Chainsmokers gig

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, aka DJ D-Sol, opened for the EDM act

A charity concert headlined by EDM duo The Chainsmokers is being investigated after video footage shows fans ignoring social distancing regulations.

The concert, titled Safe & Sound, took place on Saturday night in the Hamptons and was advertised as a “drive-in music experience”, although the video shows people congregating closely outside of their cars.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo said he was “apalled”, tweeting: “Videos from a concert held in Southampton on Saturday show egregious social distancing violations.”

Stating that the Department of Health would begin investigating the concert, Cuomo added: “We have no tolerance for the illegal and reckless endangerment of public health”.

Other artists at the event included the CEO of Goldman Sachs, David M. Solomon, who performed under his stage name DJ D-Sol.

The UK government has announced that indoor gigs can resume from August 1st in England, although in a “Covid-secure way” and with pilot schemes in place.
