Premiere: Lulu James - Closer (Brolin remix)

The masked producer reworks the soul singer's Dave Okumu-produced single into a ruminative duet.

London producer Brolin, who’s impressed us recently with his dab hand for frosty electronic pop, has reworked Lulu James’s new single Closer. The synth-shuffling original possessed similar production strokes from Dave Okumu to Jessie Ware cuts like Say No To Love – with the purest of soul-imbued vocals from the South Shields singer.

For his rework, Brolin gently disrupts all the ascendancy, adding his own breathy, dreamy vocal and recasting Closer as a ruminative, loved-up duet. The results feel raw and intriguingly unresolved.

Lulu James will play Birthdays in London on the 11th April, with support from Brolin and a DJ set from Dave Okumu. More information on that here.
