One person has been killed and three injured in Radiohead stage collapse tragedy

One person has been killed and three others have been injured by the collapse of the stage at Downsview Park, Toronto during the set-up for a Radiohead concert last night.

Scott Johnson, a 33 year old drum technician from South Yorkshire who has also worked with Keane, has been named as the victim in the accident.

The stage collapsed at around 4pm local time, a few hours before the band were due to appear. The concert was later cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”, with ticket holders advised not to travel to the venue.

Toronto police department spokesperson Sergeant Tim Burrows told Reuters that around 20 people were in the direct vicinity of the stage when its roof gave way. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, while the third, a 45 year old man, was hospitalised with a non-life-threatening head injury.

Dan Snaith, AKA Caribou, who was billed to support Radiohead at Downsview Park, tweeted, “We are profoundly saddened by what happened today. All our sympathy is with the band and crew and families of those affected.”
