Tmrrw - Lost

The 20-year-old New York producer presents us with a beautifully ambient new track.

Back in July we posted a brief article about the New York-based ambient producer Tmrrw, whose track Gates we described as ‘[slow] waves of arctic melody’. The past few days have seen him upload a few new songs onto his Soundcloud which further that style, one of the best of which is entitled Lost.

Lost rises into existence out of a mix of distorted signals and bubbling percussion, and what emerges is a beautifully-toned synth beacon which acts as a catalyst for the track’s heavy, skittering rhythm to come into fruition. It’s definitely dance music for the mind, and its feeling of wandering through some other world is ultimately brought to a close with the song’s rhythm breaking itself down, only to leave the main melody alone and with no choice but to fade away. Lost has enough evidence to suggest that Tmrrw’s skill at creating an ambient sound is more than worthy of getting excited about, and with a flurry of new tracks of this kind cropping over the past few days, it will be interesting to see how he integrates his musical ambience onto a potential proper release.

When asking Tmrrw himself to tell us a bit more about the inception of his current musical project he had the following to say:

I’ve been recording as Tmrrw since around June, 2012 working with different styles of music. Recently I have been focusing more on sound design because it is the most interesting to me.

Lost most definitely represents a producer who is more concerned with creating a genuine sense of atmosphere, as opposed to someone who is merely washing his music in reverb in order to craft a superficial one: his focus on sound design is indeed apparent on Lost, but his ear for an encapsulating melody most certainly is as well. Make sure you listen to it just below.
