Rebecca Judd curates our NEXT HYPE playlist

Next Hype is our weekly-refreshed new music playlist keeping on top of all of Friday’s best new releases. Follow on Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer and YouTube.

Today curating the playlist is Apple Music’s Rebecca Judd. The host of the newly-launched The Rebecca Judd Show has quickly made a name for herself as a broadcaster with plenty of know-how when it comes to hip-hop, R&B and grime. A key voice in UK youth culture, Judd grew up in East Ham, cutting her teeth on community radio and developing a loyal listenership at Westside Radio. She’s lent her presenting talents to Kiss, YouTube and more, before becoming an established member of the Apple Music family. Listen to her picks in the playlist below and read about her selections as you do.

Che Lingo – ‘Spaghetti’

“This track is cold! An artist I’ve been listening to for a while now, he signed to Idris Elba’s label earlier in the year. He’s straight out of South West London and has put out great music this year including a massive link up with Ghetts on ‘Black Ones’. This is his third single taken from his upcoming album ‘The Worst Generation’ coming later this year. Super-excited!”

JGrrey – ‘Ain’t so’

“I love Jgrrey! She makes beautiful music. She dropped an EP last year called ‘Grreydaze’ which I had on repeat for ages. Oh, and she supported Billie Eilish on tour last year too, that’s massive! This is her new single and she dropped an iPhone visual she styled and shot herself too, which is pretty cool.”

Knucks Ft Sam Wise – ‘Fxcked Up’

“Not the first time these guys have linked up on a track, they’re both so wavey with it. Knucks is fresh off the success of his track ‘Home’, the tune popped off and gathered over two million views on the video! They both dropped amazing projects last year too, so if you wanna hear more from them, check out ‘NRG 105’ from Knucks and ‘Sorry You Were Saying’ from Sam Wise. Collab project en route? I can only hope, haha.”

Moelogo – ‘For You’

“Lagos meets South London! First heard of Moelogo back in 2014 when he dropped a tune called ‘The Baddest’ featuring Giggs, and in 2020 he’s still dropping great music and today released a lovely five track EP called ‘Me’. Afrobeats R&B feels. Love it.”

Ego Ella May – ‘For Those Who Left’

“An artist I’ve supported a lot on my show on Apple Music! Her name is Ego Ella May and she’s just dropped her debut album called ‘Honey For Wounds’. Only having time to listen to the album once through so far because it’s only just dropped, the track that stands out to be my favourite is this track! Happy album release day Ego Ella May!”

Holly Humberstone – ‘Overkill’

“She was one of my Ascending Artists on my show earlier in the year, it was the first time we spoke so it was good to meet and have a good chat about music and life. Since then she’s dropped singles and toured with Lewis Capaldi! She’s also got two sold-out headline shows in London later in the year. She’s smashing it.”

Kamaal Williams – ‘Hold on (Feat Lauren Faith)’

“Oh gosh! I really like this track it’s so so smooth. Someone posted this on Instagram yesterday, I can’t remember who it was, but if it was you, then thank you! I’m listening to it now and I’ve restarted it three times already, it’s lovely! Taken from Kamaal’s upcoming album, ‘Wu Hen’, dropping July 24th, so that’s definitely something to look forward to.”

Qhairo – ‘Blue Petals’

“It’s a great Friday because the multi-talented Qhairo has dropped a new single, whooo! I love it, it’s such a bop, smooth smooth vocals! I want more, so Qhairo if you’re reading this, your debut EP can not come sooner, thank you in advance, haha.”

808INK ft Jesse James Solomon – ‘Riddick Bowe’

“This track is colddddd! Big ups to South East London’s 808INK because they’ve been dropping fire for a minute now. Linking up with Jesse James Solomon, this track has got all the energy!”

Etta Bond – ‘On A Beach’

“Ah this EP is just perfect! Finding the experience of quarantine quite hard, she wrote down all her feelings and this beautiful ‘2 Metres Apart’ EP was born. Four beautiful tracks on there, with a lot of us being able to relate to how she was feeling. Love ya Etta Bond!”
