Benga – I Will Never Change

Croydon dubstep DJ/producer star Benga just released the single, ‘I Will Never Change’ taken from his forthcoming album ‘Chapter 2’,which is due to be released in August. Benga’s progression is paradoxically apparent in this track, which introduces a more grown up dubstep sound, complete with overwhelming wobbly synth melodies and chilled out instrumental samples.

Directors Christopher Barrett and Luke Taylor created an ingenious video for I Will Never Change. The directors spent a week making the video – 960 records were sized-up, catalogued, polished then shot. The result is a real-life waveform – Soundcloud has brought the waveform to public attention and in the process, aestheticised the visual representation of sound. This video, then, is a simple and clever way of bridging the gap between the digital and the physical.

They told the Creative Review about the process: “To animate the wave form, we built it and then carefully removed each individual record. This had to be done very gently as any shift in the position of the sculpture would result in the failure of the animation and as we had to literally destroy each piece of vinyl to get it off, there was only one chance to get it right. Once the sculpture was finally built, the animation process took about 30 hours.”
