Hanna has payback on her mind in cinematic visual for 'Boi'
Labelled by some as one of South Africa’s most exciting musical prospects, Zimbabwean-Ethiopian rapper Hanna continues her ascent through the ranks with latest single and video for ‘Boi’.
The new track marks the lyricist’s first and final release of 2021 and follows on from last year’s debut project ‘The Girl In The Durag’, an acclaimed EP which showed the world Hanna’s no holds barred style. Pairing high-energy trap snares with the rising talent’s slick flow, ‘Boi’ is an anthem for the powerful and an ode to the haters or anyone who tries to put others down.
“‘Boi’ is extremely multidimensional,” Hanna explains. “It draws a lot from the frustration I experienced in 2019 at the peak of the GBV uproar. It also draws from my most proud, cocky and powerful self. It represents taking the power back, asserting boundaries and reminding myself, my peers and the world that I am not only unstoppable despite the systems that work against me, but that the days of those systems are numbered.”
Expertly capturing the vibe of the track, the cinematic video is filmed on sand dunes with Hanna assuming the role of kidnapper with payback on her mind.
