Kill Yourself Dancing! The Story of Sunset Records Inc.

Whilst it may not be as recognisble a name as Trax or D.J. International, Sunset Records Inc. was a important label in the early days of Chicago house music. An offshoot of a popular mobile disco formed by the young trio of Matt Warren, Miguel Garcia and Ralphi Rosario in 1985, Sunset are notable for blending the growing local dance music with influences from Disco, New Wave, Latin Freestyle and Industrial. A double CD and LP compilation – 'Kill Yourself Dancing: The Story of Sunset Records Inc. 1985-89' – featuring remastered and rare tracks from the label's history was released by Still Music earlier this week – full info and a stream are here

FACT have pointed us to a nice little companion film that features Garcia (alias Michaelangelo) and Warren explaining the label's pre-House origins, groundbreaking developments in DJing and productions techniques and visiting landmark sites of the label and the scene including the Limelight nightclub, the original Trax Recording Studio and the backyard garage that served as their HQ during Sunset's heyday.

Still Music released 'Kill Yourself Dancing: The Story of Sunset Records Inc. 1985-89' on 17th September 2013.
