slowthai and Mura Masa reunite with video for punk-infused 'Deal Wiv It'
slowthai and Mura Masa are two of the most exciting home-grown gems on the UK scene right now, both carving out a distinctive and un-deniably British sound that are as equally fresh as each other.
The pair last collaborated on ‘Doorman‘, the explosive punk track that has seen slowthai light up (and shock) live events including the Hyundai Mercury Prize (where he wielded a dummy head of Boris Johnson) and Later with Jools Holland.
The boys have paired up again for ‘Deal Wiv It’, a cut from Mura Masa’s upcoming album ‘R.Y.C.’.
The visuals depict slowthai in typical fashion: galloping confidently through a rundown estate, middle fingers raised and cigarette in mouth. With a harsh vocal style somewhere in-between Ian Drury and Mike Skinner, the rapper shouts a series of cutting punchlines grounded in working class spirit: “I went to the pub and asked for a pint for three quid, he said that’s a fiver well that’s gentrification you prick”.
The track serves as the perfect follow-on from ‘Doorman’, offering a raw and invigorating sound that can stand alone amongst the current serge of UK rap and R&B, with the pair establishing themselves as the link-up to watch out for.
