Dummy Mix 97 // November Staff Mix

BOO! We have a nice mix for you to ease you into November of our favourite tunes at the moment. The first track, while not exactly new, is a nod to the exciting Throbbing Gristle reissues coming out over the next month with their timeless classic, Walkabout. The arpeggiated synths circle and wind their way seamlessly into the next jam off of James Ferraro’s brilliant new album. London crooner Phil Smith, takes it down a bit while Oneohtrix Point Never stuns with emotional piano meanderings that’ll make any Ravel or Messiaen devotee weep.

Korallreven lightens the mood with their hazy Swedish choral pop while RVNG’s Bronze breaks out the fuzz guitars. Tycho and Steve Hauschildt gently pull us back into a bedroom nostalgic, dreamy vibe that gets a bit darker with Sepalcure’s fantastic Carrot Man off their upcoming album. Champion gets a bit funky and Cottam time warps us straight into a foggy dance-floor at 4am with his tense acidic take on deep house. Space Dimension Controller blasts off into an even deeper dimension with his trademark analogue funk, and Pearson Sound/Ramadanman gives Chicago house more than a few appreciative nods with his jacking newish alias, Maurice Donovan. Blawan and The Black Dog together are one of those terrifying matches in the scariest bowels of techno hell, and I mean that as the highest compliment! Finally Joy Orbison remixes Lana Del Rey. His take on the song is less current blissful infatuation and more the sombre memories of “before it all went so wrong” as he weaves an underlying sense of melancholy throughout.
