Douglas A. Benson Shares Debut Single 'On the Run'

A fusion of classic and contemporary sounds

Opening with a distinctly 70s classic rock feel thanks to the drum patterns and electrifying, reverb-soaked guitar solos, Benson's debut single 'On the Run' is full of psychedelic sounds.

A cut from his upcoming EP, 'Joys of Growth', Benson has noted David Bowie, Elton John, and Northern Soul classics amongst his key inspirations; all of which can certainly be felt on this single.

'On the Run' exemplifies Benson's style, fusing sentimental lyrics with energetic, groovy tones. The song explores themes of independence and self-sufficiency, capturing the essence of breaking free from dependence on others. Benson explains, "'On the Run' symbolises the first step of breaking away from the dependence one has on others, and the first step towards achieving inner peace and self-sufficiency." Its heartfelt lyrics and powerful melody offer an introspective journey paired with an irresistible beat, inviting listeners to reflect on their own paths to self-discovery.

Benson first began creating the track during the lockdown of 2020. After track evolved through a number of iterations, in 2022, Benson moved to Sweden, where he produced the entire EP before relocating again to London.
