Erykah Badu - Hotline Bling

Covers and remixes of Drake's Hotline Bling have been ten to the dozen ever since Drizzy debuted the single alongside his Meek Mill disses in July. The latest entry on the page is Erykah Badu's, who's fashioned the track as part of her upcoming mixtape 'BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE'.

Written alongside her son Seven Benjamin, Badu's HOTLINE BLING BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE MIX uses Drake's original as a basis for her own charged up sentiments. Up until the three-minute mark, the track is a pretty faithful cover until Badu switches up with an interlude:

"You've reached the Erykah Badu hotline. If you're calling for Erykah, press 1. If you're calling to wish her a happy birthday, Kwanzaa, MLK, Black History Month, Juneteenth, or Hanukkah, press 2. If you're calling because you just saw her on BET, MTV, or any of the social media outlets, and you're checking to make sure you're still in good standing, press 3. If you're calling to beg for some shit, in general, press 4. If you're calling to beg for the shit but this is that pre-call before the actual begging, press 5. If you've already made the pre-call, and this is the actual call to beg, press 6…."

Rather than mimicking the former, Badu offers a canny revision that makes it sound like her original composition. It's, by any standard, a booty-call free zone.
