hidingthehurt explores feelings of alienation on 'First Rate Education'
Hyperpop is the perfect medium to express feelings of non-conformity. The scene's positioning as the place for "outsiders" carries that stereotypical emo teen angst with it, but that angst doesn't end after the teenage years. On hidingthehurt's new song 'First Rate Education', he's bringing it into adulthood.
The song sees the 20-year-old Brit grappling with the expectations that come with a good education. He's reflecting on the path that he's walked, and now that he's on the other side, he's realised he didn't get as far as he was told he would be.
That despair makes its way into the sonics of the song, which combines crunchy distorted guitars with 8-bit synths. That musical framework is borrowed from the work of Aries and Knapsack, with hidingthehurt explaining, "This track will aim to expand upon similar soundscapes that the previous single tackled. I'm opening up my world to people and the crazy side of production that hasn’t really been associated with my artistry".
Last year, hidingthehurt released his debut EP 'From Fieldfare With Love', which truly showcased the underground artist's raw talent.
