Ifan Dafydd - Celwydd

Ifan Dafydd is just the best. From once-upbeat Amy Winehouse tracks to giant panda heads and childhood treehouses, he can take just about anything and turn it into a searing slice of sadness – and it seems that no matter how many times he does it, you still want to hear more (it’s kind of like that great, relieving feeling of allowing yourself to be really depressed, a little masochistic kick).

“Celwydd” the word is Welsh for “lie”, something dishonourable and seedy, and Celwydd the track clings to those mistrustful connotations. It’s an uneasy four minutes that has all the hallmarks of Dafydd – clipped and distorted vocals (this time courtesy of Alys Williams), cavernous echoes, tightly wound beats and subdued synths – and could be one of his very best. Stream it below.

Recordiau Lliwgar will release Celwydd as part of a compilation on 1st March 2013.
