Kinzoogianna Drops Jazztronica Anthem 'Queendom of Sound (I Love Music)'

Bold new single leads the charge for genre-hopping concept album ‘The Clique of ’86’

UK jazztronica powerhouse Kinzoogianna (aka Anna Stubbs) makes a triumphant return with 'Queendom of Sound (I Love Music)', the commanding new single from her forthcoming second solo album 'The Clique of ’86', set for release on 12th September via Brotherly Music.

A celebration of feminine musical power, 'Queendom of Sound' takes its spark from Hale Smith’s 'I Love Music', transforming it into a swaggering, genre-bending anthem where Erykah Badu meets Shirley Bassey. Kinzoogianna brings her full arsenal to the table: jazz-tinged piano, gospel-infused strings, flute solos, and off-kilter drum programming, all underpinned by the deep, groove-heavy bass of long-time collaborator Rob Mullarkey (Jacob Collier, Jordan Rakei).

“The kings of the keys kneel down to my digit queens,” Stubbs proclaims, staking her claim in a sonic kingdom where jazz, hip-hop, and orchestration collide in glorious technicolour.

The track sets the tone for 'The Clique of ’86', a richly autobiographical concept album that paints a vivid portrait of mid-80s Essex through the lens of funk, broken beat, Afrobeat, and early electro. Think Ahmad Jamal meets Nas, or Body Popping meets Synth Bass.

“This tune is the voice of my most defiant self,” says Stubbs. “People need autonomy, not control. Mistakes and mis-timed tries take time to become wise.”

A pillar of London’s broken beat scene and co-founder of nu-jazz outfit Brotherly, Kinzoogianna’s return is bold, brilliant, and unapologetically original.
