Lil Ugly Mane - Mista Thug Isolation

Lil Ugly Mane is a rapper from Richmond in Virginia whose been releasing tracks for some time now and has connections with the likes of Salem and Spaceghost Purrp. Even with the current resurgence of a distinct 90s Southern style Lil Ugly Mane is particularly adept at weaving himself into the legacy the likes of the Three 6 Mafia. ‘Mista Thug Isolation’ is the latest album from the rapper and, as the self-designed album cover shows, keeps in tow with the dark, twisted and funky template. The subject matter here stays limited but rightly so; Lil Ugly Mane is clearly comfortable and his pitched down, slow voice is the perfect fit for long time collaborator and fellow Richmond based producer Shawn Kemp.

Little is known about Kemp but he produces all of the tracks on the album and, aside from all the imagery, is simply a very talented craftsman. Beats like Radiation (Lung Pollution) and Cup Full of Beetlejuice are as murky as you want them to be but tracks like the brilliant Breezem Out and Twistin are handled with pinpoint drum patterns and samples that fit together and flow effortlessly.

Mista Thug Isolation is available to stream and download over at Lil Ugly Mane’s Bandcamp
