Mu540's 'DZ7' Redefines Brazilian Underground Sound
Brazilian producer and DJ Mu540, a trailblazer in the São Paulo baile funk scene, has just released his party-starting single, ‘DZ7’.
Known for his innovative approach to the Brazilian underground sound, Mu540 has made a name for himself both in local favelas and on international stages. This new track is a teaser from his upcoming EP, '4x4', set to drop on 27th November.
‘DZ7’ stands out by merging the raw, pulsating energy of baile funk with the structured beats of house music. The title, an abbreviation of ‘Dezessete’ (Seventeen in English), pays homage to the ‘Baile Da DZ7’ party in the Paraisópolis favela, a notorious event that faced police intervention in 2019. Featuring local artist Garimpos, the track captures the vibrant atmosphere of the DZ7 party, where attendees sip whiskey and sport Oakley sunglasses and Mizuno trainers.
Mu540’s forthcoming EP, '4x4', aims to blur the lines within Brazil’s music scene, traditionally split between the middle-class house music and the favela-rooted baile funk. By blending elements of funk, rap, drill, and house, Mu540 and his contemporaries are fostering a cultural exchange that brings house music into favela parties and introduces funk to mainstream clubs.
Emerging as one of Brazil’s most dynamic producers, Mu540 has consistently pushed the envelope with his experimental releases. His 2023 collaborative EP, 'Um Quebrada Inteligente' with MC Kyan, featured the hit ‘Fantastico Mundo da Oakley’, which combined 4x4 house beats with baile funk, gaining massive popularity in the favelas.
'D27' lays the groundwork for Mu540’s future projects, continuing to bridge the gap between genres and communities.
