Lauryn Hill has been jailed for tax evasion

Ex-Fugees star Lauryn Hill has been jailed for three months after she pleaded guilty last year for failing to pay her taxes, amounting in total to $1.8 million. She will serve her sentence in her home state of New Jersey, as well as three months of home confinement.

Defending herself, Hill stated on Monday that she had always meant to pay the tax that had built up in 2005-2007, but was unable to do so as she by that point had dropped out of the music business.

This news comes just after her signing a deal with Sony for £1m, which was supposed to facilitate her paying off her hefty bill. Also, as a legal requirement of said deal, a new track has been leaked, which can be heard below.
