Yemi Alade and Black Sherif Join Pop-Kultur Line-Up

Berlin's forward-thinking three-day festival announces line-up, panel programme and commissioned works

Held on the grounds of Kulturbrauere, Pop-Kultur festival will return to the creative hub of Berlin once again this summer.

Taking place from 28-30 August, Pop-Kultur will feature a spectacle of live performances, DJ sets, discussions and commission artistic works.

Nigerian superstar Yemi Alade has just been announced to perform at the festival with a full band and backup dancers, along with a set from Ghanian Afrofusion rapper, Black Sherif. Both performances are supported by Kulturprojekte Berlin.

Alté musician Lady Donli and Kenyan artist Blinky Bill also join the powerhouse list of African artists playing Pop-Kultur. Punk band Lambrini Girls and Tamil artist Priya Ragu are also on the diverse line-up of acts.

15 artists have been commissioned to develop creative stage productions for the festival, from concerts to performances and theatre. This year, Christin Nichols, Hope, Schneider TM, and Steve Mekoudja - all funded by Initiative Musik - have been confirmed, as well as 21 downbeat, RambaZamba's house band and Pop-Kultur regular.

That's not all - 2024's Commissioned Works have also been finalised, with performance artists Eray Gülay aka Ray and Christina Angelescu aka Crystal are organising a dance battle, "MY CIRCLE", where the best performance will be judged by a jury. Want to throw your hat in the ring? Register here.

Pop culture moments and topical issues will be discussed in detail by musicians, activists and other tastemakers in the Pop-Kultur Diskurs programme. Yvonne Sembene dives into  meme culture with the people behind the viral Instagram accounts Sveamaus and Galerie Arschgeweih. Freya Herrmann, Vera Klocke, and Jasper Landmann from podcast Fashion The Gaze will be recording a special episode live, plus much, much more. Tickets for the Diskurs programme are available to purchase separately if desired.
