BeReal can now link to your Spotify account to show what music you're listening to
If you've ever wished that BeReal could expose even more of your private life, then you're in luck. The social media platform has joined forces with Spotify to launch a brand new feature in an attempt to revitalise its social relevance.
Starting today, if you have Spotify playing while you go to take that selfie that everyone knows you retook three different times already, then BeReal will add that track in the background of the photo. All your friends will be able to see what you're listening to until the post expires the next day.
The feature will start off in Canada, Mexico, Brazila, Australia, and the US, with plans to expand even further in the near future. Eligible users will be provided with a music button before posting so they can connect their Spotify account and sync up the music.
Spotify is excited about the synergy between the two brands, saying in the announcement, "We’re proud of this integration within the BeReal platform. We’re constantly finding new ways to bring Spotify to more people, and helping fans, artists, and communities connect through audio around the world."
BeReal founding member David Aliagas is apparently self-aware about the awkward moments that'll be spawned by the expansion, urging users: "Be careful, as if you're in the gym and playing Taylor Swift, your friends are going to know about it."
Regardless, the feature will only be activated if you choose to link the accounts, so the world won't know that you're a Swiftie in private unless you want them to know.
